September 2008 Update
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | From the Keeper's Desk | No Comments
Oh. My. God.
Has THAT much time gone by since our last update?
Believe it or not, no one has been more aware of it than we three in our efforts to keep up with the plethora of stories that have been sent in; that, and the fact that Real Life has a way of making itself felt in all corners of the fandom. There’s been excessive hours at our job, medical concerns, a move from one house to the other, and jumping into a college curriculum for the first time in over a decade. These have been the things affecting our ability to deliver sooner than usual.
Oh, and there was that unfortunate encounter with that dragon of a storm called Hurricane Ike. No one, especially Tina and all our friends who live in the northeast, ever thought the storm would wreak so much havoc over such a wide and long spread of the hemisphere. For a good week or so, the cities of Galveston and Houston weren’t the only ones confounded by a lack of power, storm wreckage and primitive conditions. Tina’s home suffered outages, and we know that many of you talked in our groups of how you’ve been affected as well. Ike was only a Category 2 hurricane, not near enough to compare to the frightening power of Katrina or Rita, but he seemed to prove that not all things have to be powerful to be destructive. We extend our prayers for all of those seriously affected by the storm!
On a more general note, but one we feel should be expressed: there have been some ‘behind the scenes’ efforts happening that have us slowed down, things which we’re sure will only help us in bringing you the very best website we can in the upcoming months. We’re hoping that you’re seeing the changes now, but it’s hopefully just the beginning.
We feel the need to pause here and say many thanks and appreciation to those of you who have agreed to not only let us post new stories, but many of those that were once on the old Gaslight site. We know we’re very excited to have you, and while we welcome lots of new friends we’re glad to see our old friends rejoin us too. Perhaps our old friends might bring us new chapters to add to their old favorites?? *bg*
Last but certain not least, we owe a great deal of thanks to Bridgid, whom many of you know due to her RCFF and if you’re on the Fliers group too. Because of her, we are seeing the possibilities of what Gaslight can be, and she has been incredibly helpful in guiding us through many of the transitions we’ve been going through these last months. We can’t thank her enough for taking the time to do this, so we wanted to acknowledge her here in our announcement! So…THANK YOU BRIDGID!
On a final note (well, two actually): much thanks also to those who have helped with beta’ing the stories and helping the webmaster get things straightened out! The site really is about what YOU guys can and do contribute and every bit of it makes it work! If you see a story that you just absolutely love, be sure to drop a note either to someone in the contacts who can forward it onto the author, or if you know that author, jot a kudos to them. It will brighten their day!
With many best wishes,
Tina, Beej, and Sharon
New to the CROWE’S POINT are:
Bridgid Morgan in a very entertaining introduction to the Point in “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.” Bud White makes a definite impression on a very bemused Bridgid.
Scarlet Moran brings two new girls for the Point - “Something in the Way” brings an FBI case that Zack Grant never thought possible at the Point; and “Scarlet Meets the Big Bad Wolf” in Hando who may not be the skinhead Scarlet thinks he is.
Sharon hints at a connection outside the Point perimeters in “Don’t Answer Me” when Alex Ross makes a reluctant visit to the past at the local museum.
Layne introduces a love interest for the newest addition to the Point, Richie Roberts, in “Responsibilities.” Can he be tempted to love?
And continuing Point stories:
Tina finally reveals the secret of Adalia’s private life in chapter 5 of “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” - does Kim Barrett stand a chance? (Multiple Characters)
Layne adds more tension to the “Bad Connection” already established at the Point, with Ben Wade making an unexpected challenge.
Sharon gives Chloe the opportunity to make a good impression on Cort in the 4th chapter of “Ashokan Falls,” but her wardrobe leaves something to be desired.
In our SINGLE CHARACTER section:
“A Beautiful Heart” by Ilaria - Maximus
“The Price of Freedom” chapters 5 & 6 by Kaz - Terry Thorne
“A Date in Mexico” (Ben Wade) AND “The Captain’s House” (Jack Aubrey) by Atonia Walpole
“The Call Came at 3:10” by Scarlet Moran - Bud White
“Unexpected Opportunity” (Ben Wade) AND “New Leaf, Same Tree,” (Richie Roberts) by Layne Richards
“Happy Anniversary” by Bejay Roles - Jake Mitchell series
