September 2010 Update

Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last you create what you will. ~ George Bernard Shaw, Irish Playwright
Good morning.
Good afternoon.
Good evening.
And it has been way too long since the Gaslight Hotel had an update, but now with the final days of summer and the approaching ones of fall, we are happy to announce the arrival, too, of some new works and some additions to our collection.
First we have several chapters in House of Usher featuring everyone’s favorite preacher, Cort from The Quick and the Dead, and written by a new Gaslight author, Andii, guitarist for the London steam punk band, Ghostfire. (You may find the link to their band on our Favorite Links page.)
As part of the Viridian Control series (Multiple Character page), Tina has the first chapter of her Opera Ghost. The world is Polidori’s and he makes that clear to Jack Aubrey in London, as the captain chafes against the 21st century and its’ confusing new rules.
Finally, in our continuing Crowe’s Point saga (Crowe’s Point page), Alex Ross continues to find Serendipity in Sharon’s latest addition.
One more announcement: we are happy to post an addition to our Favorite Links, this one to a forum for actor Eliot Cowan – and if you don’t know Mr. Cowan by now, you need to check out Lost in Austen and his Darcy, one that stands up quite well to Colin Firth’s 1995 version! Sometimes in our travels across the Internet universe we encounter those that share our passions and others who may not, but who are so nice that we still find things in common. We are happy to make them welcome…and we hope you will too.
So that is it for now. We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer as we all look forward to coming of autumn and the holidays! Enjoy!
Tina, List Mum
Update for the Holidays
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 | From the Keeper's Desk | No Comments
Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to everyone, and we are very delighted to bring you the post-Thanksgiving/pre-Christmas-Chanukah update to The Gaslight Hotel. Please consider this an early gift to you, as we have quite a number of stories again this time, so we’re certain you will find a story (or two…or three…or more) to kick back with on a chilly, late autumn evening while you relax with your beverage of choice. So let’s get started.
Many thanks again to those of you that made us aware of broken links, the misfortune of websites big and small. It is because of you that we often learn of these after we’ve put our publication to bed for another day, so please, please, please let us know when you find one, no matter when you do. That way we can correct it ASAP.
So in the spirit of the Season, we bring you something old and something new (not too sure about borrowed and blue). They are in all our categories, and this may want to make you ‘Fasten your seat belts…’ as Bette Davis suggested in All About Eve!
Let’s begin with the FIXED LINKS:
The Private Nurse (Colin/Single Character)
Skin and Bone (Hando/Single Character)
Lily’s Story (Cort/Single Character)
Back in Harness (Terry/Single Character)
The Price of Freedom (Terry/Single Character)
Justice Served (Bed Wade/Single Character)
X Proof (Multiple Character)
*****************************
We have an ORIGINAL CHARACTER FIC:
The Arms of God by Sharon, a historic story that is Cort-inspired.
****************************
Next, we have new chapters in our continuing CROWE’S POINT stories, as well as an introduction:
NEWCOMER!
~~ Welcome to Marie and her story, The Meeting, in which Molly Simmons comes face to face with the Point’s daredevil pilot, Lachlan Curry.
NEW CHAPTERS AND STORIES:
~~ From Beej:
Jack Aubrey experiences Sophie’s Makeover
~~ From Bridgid:
How does one Nip It In The Bud, especially when that Bud is Bud White?
~~ From Layne:
Bad Connection with Ben Wade (could there be any other kind?)
And join Richie Roberts in Responsibilities
~~ From Sharon:
Ashokan Falls once again follows Cort and newly arrived Chloe in…well…we’ll see….
~~ From Tina:
Love is a-Many Splendoured Thing: are Adalia, Jack Corbett and Kim in a potentially doomed triangle?
***********************
SINGLE CHARACTER STORIES:
We have a new writer and some old friends:
~~ A Thorne Remaining: check for new add-on chapters from Jo.
~~ Chest of Money from Taffey features a new chapter.
NEW SINGLE STORIES:
~~ Stacey:
Ben Wade in Testify
~~ Taffey:
Herod Explains and Sally all feature Cort.
And Jack Aubrey attends The Tea Party.
******************************
We here at the Gaslight are thrilled to announce that for the first time, we will begin to reprint many of the original Gaslight stories you fell in love with at the old site. Many of you have asked when we might see them again, and with this update, we are offering a few that we have been given permission to post. Countless thanks to the authors for giving us permission to do so, and we hope that these will inspire our readers to perhaps try their own hand at something they’ve considered; bring back old memories, or start brand new ones. We will store these as part of THE GASLIGHT CHRONICLES and in future updates we will always attempt to include more.
SINGLE CHARACTER STORIES:
~~ Athena:
Our favorite L.A. cop, Bud White, spends a Summer in England.
~~ Irene brings everyone’s favorite Alaskan sheriff, John Biebe to The 65th Parallel.
~~ Stephanie and Ilaria, two of Gaslight’s most prolific writers gave us some wonderful collaborations over the years. This time they bring you Maximus as he joins our intrepid duo in the Tunnel of Time.
~~ And Roberta gives us Maximus as the Wolf of Rome.
CROWE’S POINT CHRONICLES:
When the original universe was created back in 2000, it was known as The Crowe’s Nest and you will find the mention of some that remained at the current Crowe’s Point…and the names of others who have moved on. We are still attempting to organize a proper timeline, but these are among the earliest stories chronologically.
~~ John Biebe (as ghost-written by Tina):
Prelude: The Alaskan’s life at the Crowe’s Nest is about to undergo a transformation.
~~ Tina:
By Way of Introduction: the first chapters in the arrival of the crime scene technician from Louisville.
~~ Laura:
World in My Eyes: the first chapters about the arrival of Tina’s friend, Chicagoan Laura, and her unexpected adventures.
********************************
And finally, we have updated the Guidelines page to include new information about the Crowe’s Point Keepers.
********************************
That’s it ladies and gentlemen – a little of everything as we promised. We hope you enjoy all of them and remember that if you do, be sure to leave a message to the author on our messageboard. Our writers will definitely be happy to know how much they helped make your day.
Until next time….
September 2008 Update
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | From the Keeper's Desk | No Comments
Oh. My. God.
Has THAT much time gone by since our last update?
Believe it or not, no one has been more aware of it than we three in our efforts to keep up with the plethora of stories that have been sent in; that, and the fact that Real Life has a way of making itself felt in all corners of the fandom. There’s been excessive hours at our job, medical concerns, a move from one house to the other, and jumping into a college curriculum for the first time in over a decade. These have been the things affecting our ability to deliver sooner than usual.
Oh, and there was that unfortunate encounter with that dragon of a storm called Hurricane Ike. No one, especially Tina and all our friends who live in the northeast, ever thought the storm would wreak so much havoc over such a wide and long spread of the hemisphere. For a good week or so, the cities of Galveston and Houston weren’t the only ones confounded by a lack of power, storm wreckage and primitive conditions. Tina’s home suffered outages, and we know that many of you talked in our groups of how you’ve been affected as well. Ike was only a Category 2 hurricane, not near enough to compare to the frightening power of Katrina or Rita, but he seemed to prove that not all things have to be powerful to be destructive. We extend our prayers for all of those seriously affected by the storm!
On a more general note, but one we feel should be expressed: there have been some ‘behind the scenes’ efforts happening that have us slowed down, things which we’re sure will only help us in bringing you the very best website we can in the upcoming months. We’re hoping that you’re seeing the changes now, but it’s hopefully just the beginning.
We feel the need to pause here and say many thanks and appreciation to those of you who have agreed to not only let us post new stories, but many of those that were once on the old Gaslight site. We know we’re very excited to have you, and while we welcome lots of new friends we’re glad to see our old friends rejoin us too. Perhaps our old friends might bring us new chapters to add to their old favorites?? *bg*
Last but certain not least, we owe a great deal of thanks to Bridgid, whom many of you know due to her RCFF and if you’re on the Fliers group too. Because of her, we are seeing the possibilities of what Gaslight can be, and she has been incredibly helpful in guiding us through many of the transitions we’ve been going through these last months. We can’t thank her enough for taking the time to do this, so we wanted to acknowledge her here in our announcement! So…THANK YOU BRIDGID!
On a final note (well, two actually): much thanks also to those who have helped with beta’ing the stories and helping the webmaster get things straightened out! The site really is about what YOU guys can and do contribute and every bit of it makes it work! If you see a story that you just absolutely love, be sure to drop a note either to someone in the contacts who can forward it onto the author, or if you know that author, jot a kudos to them. It will brighten their day!
With many best wishes,
Tina, Beej, and Sharon
New to the CROWE’S POINT are:
Bridgid Morgan in a very entertaining introduction to the Point in “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.” Bud White makes a definite impression on a very bemused Bridgid.
Scarlet Moran brings two new girls for the Point - “Something in the Way” brings an FBI case that Zack Grant never thought possible at the Point; and “Scarlet Meets the Big Bad Wolf” in Hando who may not be the skinhead Scarlet thinks he is.
Sharon hints at a connection outside the Point perimeters in “Don’t Answer Me” when Alex Ross makes a reluctant visit to the past at the local museum.
Layne introduces a love interest for the newest addition to the Point, Richie Roberts, in “Responsibilities.” Can he be tempted to love?
And continuing Point stories:
Tina finally reveals the secret of Adalia’s private life in chapter 5 of “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” - does Kim Barrett stand a chance? (Multiple Characters)
Layne adds more tension to the “Bad Connection” already established at the Point, with Ben Wade making an unexpected challenge.
Sharon gives Chloe the opportunity to make a good impression on Cort in the 4th chapter of “Ashokan Falls,” but her wardrobe leaves something to be desired.
In our SINGLE CHARACTER section:
“A Beautiful Heart” by Ilaria - Maximus
“The Price of Freedom” chapters 5 & 6 by Kaz - Terry Thorne
“A Date in Mexico” (Ben Wade) AND “The Captain’s House” (Jack Aubrey) by Atonia Walpole
“The Call Came at 3:10” by Scarlet Moran - Bud White
“Unexpected Opportunity” (Ben Wade) AND “New Leaf, Same Tree,” (Richie Roberts) by Layne Richards
“Happy Anniversary” by Bejay Roles - Jake Mitchell series
“Island State of Mind” by Atonia Walpole
“It Was a Cold Day In October” by Atonia Walpole
