PIC FEST & More

Saturday, December 5th, 2009 | From the Keeper's Desk | No Comments

Here’s another little update for you - Our latest series of installments involve one huge voluminous story written by the originators of The Gaslight Hotel and Crowe’s Point, and chapters 8 & 9 will prove how a simple (and fun) a little writing challenge can morph into a wonderful exploration of character and plot.  All based on pictures, no less!  Do check out our latest installment - both good and bad things happen to Tina and John, and Colin craves to know if things will ever be the same for him and Michelle.  WARNING: adult situations, rated R.

Along with our update, we’d like to introduce you to some new arrivals to the Crowe fandom itself - one involves a blog dedicated with love to the actor himself and his various characters.  Golden Girl presents “Russell Cove” for the purpose of discussing our favorite characters and latest news of our Favorite Man.  She’s a brand new fan and we always love to welcome newcomers to the fandom.  She has excellent taste in actors and men, doesn’t she, ladies?

If you’re wanting to know where she got her beautiful graphics, check out Lithium Designs.

We’ve also added their blogs as well as new friends to our Favorite Links list, so be sure to check them all out!  Among them are our friends Vicki Lyn (”its the way you ride the trail that counts”) and Ithildin with her own fanfiction website, Darkwood, featuring stories centered in Forever Knight and Highlander.

And finally, we’ve been honored with new additions to our Twitter Role Playing family - newcomers to the fandom @nyteraider and Golden Girl have kindly agreed to participate in our little social media game for the Crowe’s Point, the alternate universe for all our favorite Crowe characters.  If you’ve been following the RP with @SIDSixPtSeven and @Ava_James, then you will be excited to learn that SID has gone through a reboot…Good Lord, what sort of mesmerizing monster will come out of SID now?  And will Ava be able to figure him out (in time)?  We can promise you, NOTHING is boring at the Point…

(and a big round of applause for @nyteraider, @Ava_James & GoldenGirl - they’ve already given us a taste of things to come…)

The BEST way you can keep up with all these streams (of consciousness…or lack thereof) is to check out our MixTweet site - this has been a LOVELY answer to our collaboration issues on Twitter, especially in regards to role-playing.  It can be hard enough trying to figure out how Twitter works on a general basis - throw in a continual soap opera of conversation and things can rapidly get lost in the chatter.  But MixTweet allows us to create groups of the Twitter people we want you to see, and everyone is collected in our Group, The Gaslight Tavern, as well as individual pairings.  Some of those pairing include @CaptJackAubrey with @MaddyMusette2 and @MrTerryThorne with @Shaina_Y.

Plus, the really neat thing about MixTweet is, if you want to go back in history, just click the “more” button at the bottom of the page.  Its role-play reading made easy!

Working to bring more to you soon!

Summer Changes - Update

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009 | From the Keeper's Desk | No Comments

www.gaslighthotel.net

Thought we’d forgotten you?  Wrong.  In fact, we’ve been keeping you in our thoughts rather steadily now for the last few months, even though summer landed pretty fast and hard and early.  When I wasn’t taking trips to San Antonio or Galveston, I was driving to Florida and back, or visiting family in the hill country of Texas; and Tina, our Resident Crime Scene Tech, aka “List Mum”, was working Derby and coping with an increase in cases, a workload that continued to rise as June settled in.  It has not been until July that both of us have had a chance to really evaluate the website and implement some new things as well as reorganize the old.

So if you click on the link, you will find that the Gaslight Hotel has a New Look: leaner, cleaner…you might even say more austere.  Our focus here is on the many stories we have housed and will continue to add to in the months to come.

And there’s lots of good stuff this time around, especially if you’ve been wondering about the ‘history’ of Crowe’s Point.  We’ve opened up our archives once more and uploaded several stories, ones that had been long time favorites and even some that haven’t been up in quite some time.  These stories are listed in Crowe’s Point Chronicles.

Crowe’s Point Chronicles:

Near Side of the Point - Jack Aubrey’s entrance into the Point as told by Laura.  One would think characters like Maximus and Cort would make the transition to Point life easier…well, they’d never met a character like Jack!

Distant Echoes - Maximus meets a new arrival to the Point, a much needed doctor.  Will he accept that Anthony is not what, or who, he appears to be?

Sarah Lacey has added new chapters to her story, Programmed For Success – will she and Maximus have time for each other while she works for SID 6.7?  (addition begins on p. 9)

The entirety of This Is Your Captain Speaking, by Kazlyn, is now loaded for your enjoyment.  Tensions rise as Terry and Kaz discover a connection.

Harry Potter at Crowe’s Point?!  Well…not quite, but Sophy has some issues to discuss with a mentor and she does so with magical flare in Heisenberg At The Point.

In conjunction with Distant Echoes, we present the next three stories as a means of getting to know how a non-Crowe character ended up becoming part of the Point Family.  Faith, First Date, and Grace are told from the perspective of Stephanie.

God’s Gift is a wonderful little story that was written specifically with Jeff Mitchell in mind.

Crowe’s Point:

Scarlet Meets the Big Bad Wolf receives a new chapter this go around – Hando has been making it clear to Maximus and everyone else how he intends to receive newcomer, Scarlet Moran.

Single:

Two stories from our archives: After The Fire, by Roberta, is focused on Cort, while Ayesha, by Athena, centers around Maximus.

A new single story is added to the list, by Tina and Sharon, called Mirror and Mask.  A death in the family draws Terry Thorne home to a past long forgotten.

Multiple

We are happy to announce the debut of a new multiple character arc - ‘Viridian Control.’ What is Viridian?  The premier story, Inception by Sharon, introduces you to a powerful corporation involved in far more than can be imagined by the citizens of Houston. Inside a picturesque old building in the city’s downtown are secrets known only to a few; one of them is SID 6.7, who rebels against the mercy of Dr. Evan Polidori.

Miscellaneous

Sharon adds to her movie adaptation of the 1999 movie, “The Mummy” starring some of the Crowe’s Point denizens and a very flustered Chloe Navratil. (addition begins on p.14)

We’ve also added a YouTube video featuring lovely scenes of Max Skinner and Fanny, to the tune of “La Vie en Rose,” a delightful video that is sure to have you watching A Good Year again…and again…

Finally, we’d like to make mention of some new links on our site, ones we have re-established old connections with and new ones we have met while tweeting away on Twitter.   An Englishman in LA is an artist who designs replica artwork for museums, a lovely man who has created some truly beautiful pieces.  Also, Deborah Riley-Magnus is a familiar name to those of us in the Crowe fandom, but an up and coming literary writer who is currently promoting her book, Cold in California.

We have friends at Omega Squadron (hello Kaz!), and Moonlight is a fan fiction source for a variety of interests; and if you REALLY want to know the ins and outs, the depths and heights of the world of fandom, you can’t go wrong entering the wiki of Fan History (beginning of course with a page featuring our favorite actor, Russell Crowe).  Many thanks to site administrator, Laura Hale, for her assistance and support!

And we’d like to give a special thanks to fellow Tweeters @deepbluesealove, @katmars, @Emma_Camden, @purplepopple and @jackiesfeet, for all their support and enthusiasm and good will on Twitter.  You guys have made Twitter an awesome place to be!

Last but not least, a huge thank you to Jessie, Darrin, Kaspinet, Riley, and Natalie!  Be sure to visit their sites and the others listed for beautiful artwork, fantastic forays into imagination, and lots of news and discussion about Russell Crowe.  Can May 2010 come soon enough?  NO!

One last thing – if you should wish to contact the author of a particular story, perhaps to convey a compliment upon their writing, or want to know how to become part of the Gaslight Tavern Yahoo group, be sure to go to our Contacts page and use the email and links listed there.  Feedback is Pure Love to writers and they might be inspired to write more if you encourage them!

Happy reading!

The deadline for submissions for The Gaslight Hotel website will be Friday, January 23rd.

Please send everything to gaslight@gaslighthotel.net so that it goes into the general mailbox and that way we don’t miss anything, and as always, have a beta go over things for you, no matter what you’re sending.

For those of you that sent off things off last time and didn’t get them into our last 2008 edition, we’ll be posting those this time around as well.

If by some chance, you’re working on something, get to the deadline and realize you need another day or two to finish it up, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

And remember, if you ever have any questions, well, you know where to write!

For Gaslight Writers: A Movie Challenge

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to everyone, and hope that wherever you are, you’re having a wonderful Easter weekend, as well as the first weekend of Spring. (Although for me, Tina — here in Louisville — we had a beautiful sunny Good Friday and today is completely overcast with a chance of rain. Oh well LOL)

Anyway, down to business. After some discussion, we would like to announce that the Gaslight Hotel web sites are now throwing out a new writing challenge to everyone. It’s been a while since we offered one, so with the start of a new season, we figured, why not? And it can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. The challenge is *drum roll please*
